Message from the Principal Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

Please remember that this coming Monday, 9/22, is a professional development day for our staff. There will be no school for students. These days are incredibly valuable as they allow our teachers and staff to collaborate, share best practices, and continue their professional growth. This is all with the goal of providing the most robust and engaging learning experiences for your children.

This week, we have a few exciting events happening. We are so excited for our first Popcorn Friday of the year and our first school-wide assemblies this Friday!

These assemblies are a wonderful way for our entire school community to come together. We'll celebrate our collective successes, review school-wide expectations, and grow together in community. We will also celebrate all of our students with August and September birthdays, so if your child has had a birthday recently, be on the lookout for a special surprise from Mrs. Pleau and Ms. Parker.

Enjoy your 3 day weekend!

Sincerely,

Annie Pleau

Principal

Crossing Guard Support Crossing Guard Support

You may have noticed an increased presence at the intersection of Kaiser and Ridgeline on Monday morning. We had the head of public safety and our partners from Safe Routes to School and a Youth Services Officer join us to observe our crossing procedures. Their support and expertise will help us create the safest crossing conditions possible for our students and families.

We want to extend a huge thank you to all the families who followed the crossing guard's directions and crossed the street safely. Your cooperation is essential to keeping our community safe.

As we continue this analysis, we did notice that some drivers, when turning onto Kaiser from Ridgeline, drove over the white lines of the crosswalk. Please remember to be mindful of these markings on the pavement. Driving past them can create a visual barrier and make it difficult for our crossing guards to see and be seen. Your attention to these details helps us all ensure a safe and smooth start to the school day.

Car Drop off/Pick up Tips Car Drop off/Pick up Tips

When dropping off or picking up students, please remember to pull all the way forward in the car line. Leaving gaps between cars backs up traffic and makes the process slower for everyone. Your cooperation helps ensure a smooth and safe arrival and dismissal for all our students and families.

Here are some helpful tips to make picture day great! Schedule haircuts 7-10 days prior to picture day!

Wear simple clothing. Solid shirts or small patterns, along with sleeves, photograph best. A simple collared shirt is a timeless classic.

Avoid logos and text on clothing. Graphics or wording may not photograph completely and can become partially cropped out of your picture.

As was announced at the end of last school year, the BSD is transitioning from using the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to the Naglieri General Abilities Tests (NGATs). This decision aligns with the BSD’s commitment to meet the needs of all students as described in our strategic plan.

In October 2025, BSD 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be screened for giftedness in their classrooms using one of three NGATs, unless families choose to request their children to be given the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).

  • 3rd grade students will take the Naglieri General Ability Test - Nonverbal.

  • 4th grade students will take the Naglieri General Ability Test - Verbal

  • 5th grade students will take the Naglieri General Ability Test - Quantitative

During this school year (2025-26), families who want to request that their student take the CogAT must complete this google form link. Requests must be submitted by September 22nd. Please remember, students cannot be tested with the CogAT in consecutive years, so if your child took the CogAT during the 2024-25 school year, they will not be allowed to take the CogAT again this year. As of the 2026-27 school year, the district will only use NGATs. If you request that your child be given the CogAT, they will not take the NGAT in their classroom.

If your student is on vacation or ill when their class takes the NGAT, we will have a make-up day for all tests missed at the school. If your student misses the make-up test, they will not be tested this year.

Sato's test dates are as follows:

NGAT for 3rd, 4th and 5th will be the week of October 13th-17th.

Makeup sessions will be the week of October 27th-31st.

CogAT has not been scheduled yet.
