The Rideau Report
Newsletter February 2024
Welcome to Term 2
Bonjour Rideau Families,
What a beautiful sunshine out there this morning!
Today, Mme Kennedy is starting in her new role as Vice-Principal. We wish her a fantastic start. As she is now in charge of yard supervisors, she asked me to let you know that we are always looking for people who are available for yard and lunch supervision in case you have some free time on your hands. You can reach her at kennedyca@limestone.on.ca.
Three of our grade five students: Claire, Josie and Addie hosted a bake sale last November. They used the money to buy books for the school. Please enjoy the picture below where we can see how happy they are to present our new books to the school. Their leadership is an example for everyone to follow!
Kindergarten registrations are now open. If your child turns 4 in 2024, they are eligible to start JK in September. Please note that there is a change with the out-of-boundaries policy from the board. Parents can now choose to register their children in the school of their choice, pending there is room. Visit the Limestone District School Board for more detail. For new kindergarten students, we will host an Open House later in May.
It is already time to start thinking about next year's calendar. The board has created a survey for you to complete. It is a bit confusing... to sum it up, there is the option of a PA Day on the Tuesday after Labour Day weekend or on the Friday of that first week. There is also a decision to make about the October PA Day that can be attached to Thanksgiving weekend or not. Follow this link to the survey https://bit.ly/LDSB24-25CalendarSurvey

News from Mme Lockhart
As part of our commitment to building stronger school-family partnerships, Rideau Public School is proud to announce that we have a new Family Resource Bulletin Board and Book Lending Library! Together with the help of Mme Lockhart, we have curated a small library of books, articles and podcasts on Dyslexia and ADHD to help you support your child's learning needs at home and within the school community. Please check out the Family Resource bulletin board, conveniently located above the Lost and Found table, next time you are at school. If you are interested in borrowing one of our books on Dyslexia or ADHD, please email Mme Lockhart directly at lockhartk@limestone.on.ca to coordinate a pick-up day and time. If you have other books to suggest, we welcome suggestions!
Message from KFL&A
On February 28 from 6-7pm KFL&A Public Health will be hosting a live webinar titled: Food-neutral kids: A parent and caregiver presentation. In this session, we will talk about the ways that families can help kids develop a positive relationship with food. This information session will be presented virtually by a School Health Team nurse and dietitian.
Please note: The attached poster does not include a live link. Please use the following live link to register: kflaph.ca/FoodNeutral
Also, I would like to take the opportunity to share that on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, and throughout February, schools across Ontario will celebrate Winter Walk Day. We encourage your school to participate by promoting walking and wheeling to school and organizing winter-themed walking events. Events like Winter Walk to School Day can be a fun way to encourage families to incorporate active travel into their routine all year round, gain the associated health benefits, and increase safety by keeping cars away from the school.
