Updates From The Principal
Hello NRMS Families,
Thank you for attending our Open House event last night. Your presence demonstrates the strong partnership between school and home that is essential for student success. Research consistently shows that when families and schools work together, students thrive both academically and socially. We are proud to share our school community with you and excited to continue building these vital connections throughout the year.
The partnership we're building extends beyond the classroom walls. There are many meaningful ways to contribute to our shared mission of supporting every student's growth and success. Whether through volunteering your time, providing financial support, or both, every contribution strengthens our school community. Opportunities include joining the PTO, assisting with school events, supporting the NRMS Education Foundation, serving as a guest speaker, or finding other ways that align with your interests and availability. When we all contribute according to our means and circumstances, we create incredible opportunities for field trips, special programs, and enriching experiences that benefit every student.
We recognize that families have different capacities to contribute, and we appreciate whatever support you're able to provide. Every family's involvement—whether big or small—makes a meaningful difference in creating the best possible experience for our students.
Please save the date of Saturday, October 4, and plan to shop at Friends Market in Orleans. Eleven percent of purchases that day will be donated to the NRMS Education Foundation, which serves our school community with this mission and vision:
OUR MISSION: To partner with the community to enrich the experiences of NRMS students by funding additional learning opportunities and resources for students, teachers, and administrators.
OUR VISION: To maximize student potential and to ensure that students of all ability levels and interests are empowered to be active participants in their community at school and beyond.
If you have connections with other local businesses who might be interested in hosting a similar fundraising day, please have them contact the Foundation at nrmsedf@gmail.com.
Thank you for partnering with us to support our school's approach to smart phones and smart watches. We appreciate families who are choosing to delay these purchases until high school. For students who do have these devices, we thank you for supporting our policy that requires them to be turned off and secured in lockers during school hours, and for avoiding texting your child during the school day.
We announced our 8th grade House captains this week and will launch our House competition next week. So many exciting developments are happening at our middle school, all made possible through our strong school-home partnership. Thank you for being such an important part of our students' success!
Peter Cohen, Ed.D.
