McDonald is so excited to grow our Unified Champion Club this year! Our Unified Champion school is partnered with Special Olympics,Nebraska. We will be having whole school events along with small group events throughout the 2021-2022 school year.

In order to be inclusive and an opportunity to connect, our club events will be broken up into grade level sections. For October we will have 4th grade and 2nd Grade students. We will be talking about what it means to be a Unified Champion member, having a snack, and painting pumpkins.

For October - 4th and 2nd Grade - Pumpkin Painting

December - 5th and 1st Grade - (To be determined)

February - 3rd and Kindergarten - (To be determined)

Permission slips will be sent home when dates are determined.

2nd and 4th grade will meet on Tuesday, October 19th from 3:30-4:30. Parents will be expected to pick up their children PROMPTLY at 4:30. Students walking or riding their bike home will need to have a parent contact me via email to verify that this is how they will be getting home.

If you are interested in having your student participate please return the permission slip that was sent home with 2nd and 4th graders only. If you need a new permission slip please call the office at 308-535-7140.

Please join us the first Tuesday of each month at 5:45 in the Library. Each meeting is usually less than 30 minutes. We need help planning family friendly events, supporting our teachers, enhancing the learning environment and encouraging community within the school.

McDonald PTO's goal this year is to focus on empowering our children's learning by bringing community back to the school after a year of distancing. We would like to provide family friendly activities such as Bingo For Books, Family Movie Night, and FUN Night.

In order to have host these great events we will be doing an exciting fund raiser through Believe Kids. It is a Cookie Dough sale along with a Holiday Catalog. There will be paper order forms sent home October 7th and online shopping will be available as well.

The profit we make from this Fundraiser also give us the opportunity to help support our teachers, help with classroom needs, and sponsor educational speakers.

T-Shirt Sales will close on October 7th. Youth Shirts are $10 each, Adult Shirts are $15.00 each, please send a check with your order form to school with your student. Please call the office at 535-7140 if you need an order form sent home with your student. Profits made will support your students through our PTO.

McDonald Elementary totally believes that children learn better and retain more information when they have the ability to use their prior knowledge and imagination to critically think and problem solve. One way we are encouraging our students to do this is by introducing STEM.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, “All young people should be prepared to think deeply and to think well so that they have the chance to become the innovators, educators, researchers, and leaders who can solve the most pressing challenges facing our nation and our world, both today and tomorrow.
