Good afternoon, Murphy families,

I hope you are having a great weekend. Please see below for a few updates.

Fun Run is coming!

We are all getting excited about the Fun Run on 10/21. Thank you to all of our supporters!

The times for the run will be as follows:

9:15-9:45 - 5th Grade and 1st Grade

10:00-10:30 - 4th Grade and K

10:45-11:15 - 3rd Grade and 2nd Grade

For families who wish to observe from a distance, please be mindful of a few organizational safety considerations:

  • There will be a spectator area on the blacktop adjacent to the course.

  • Please be mindful of younger siblings / small children to ensure they do not run onto the course

  • Please do not bring any dogs (or other pets).

We look forward to a fun and safe event for all.

MCAS mailing

For students in grades 4 and 5, spring 2024 MCAS results were mailed on Thursday.

Trunk or Treat

Parent Council is planning our annual Trunk or Treat event. This will take place on 10/26 at 3:00.

Field Trips

We have begun our Field Trips for the year and many more will take place throughout the year.

If you are interested in chaperoning field trips or volunteering during school events (i.e. Field Day), please remember to complete a CORI form. (Please contact our office for details).

Last week, our 5th grade visited the WHS planetarium!

Holly Hill

We have begun our lessons with Holly Hill Farm. Last week, our Kindergarten classrooms welcomed them in to investigate the growth of sunflowers. We look forward to continuing our work with them at each grade level throughout the year!

Halloween at Murphy

On Halloween Day (10/31), we will celebrate with "Black & Orange Day" at Murphy.

Before & After School Enrichment

Each year, we try to offer a variety of before and after school enrichment courses for our students. Typically, these run for 1 hour / week for a 5 week session. Topics in the past have included: board game club, dance club and running club. We are always hoping for new ideas!

We are currently looking for interested community members who would like to participate at some point in the year. If you would like to help out - or even suggest a topic - please contact Mr. Costello or Murphy Parent Council .... or come to a Parent Council meeting to discuss. Thank you!

PBIS Weekly ROAR Winners!

As part of the PBIS program, we continue our tradition of recognizing students from each room on a weekly basis for their demonstration of Respect, Owning actions, Achievement and Responsibility (ROAR). Here is our crew from last week!

Fall Assessments

Our Fall benchmark assessment data is available in Aspen. Further clarification / discussion of this information will be available during our upcoming conferences (11/12, 11/13).

Save the Date - Fall Conferences

We are excited to look ahead to our Family Conferences on 11/12 and 11/13. More information regarding specific times and signup will be available soon.

Morning Drop Off Procedures

We have added additional cones to reinforce a single line and we have repositioned staff in order to optimize student and family safety.

Important: If you have a concern with another driver on the lot, please alert school staff immediately. Please do not approach other drivers or speak to them about perceived procedural infractions in front of students.

Thank you all for your continued cooperation. It is greatly appreciated.

** Please share this message with anyone who may pick up your child.

Afternoon Dismissal Procedures

As a reminder, during the afternoon pickup, it is important for traffic to flow in one direction. When car try to go "out through the in door" it creates a safety hazard. Thanks to everyone for helping with our efforts to ensure a safe experience for all.

Also, the parking along the tree line in front of the building is for staff. Please avoid parking there in the afternoon as it creates a potential safety hazard while backing into traffic and bus lines.

** Please share this message with anyone who may pick up your child.

Arrival / Dismissal

Please take a few moments to view our Arrival & Dismissal information. If friends or family transport your child to or from school, please share these procedures with them.

EARLY DISMISSALS

Please send in a note when dismissing your child. This helps to remind the office and the teacher of the time during the day this will occur. Please do not dismiss your child early to avoid the traffic. This is extremely disruptive to the classroom when teachers are assigning homework, passing out notices, or completing other necessary tasks. When a child is dismissed by someone other than a parent/guardian, we require identification and a signature for release.

REGULAR DISMISSAL

Please send a note to the school if your child is changing their regular routine of dismissal. This includes walkers, after-school care, and the bus. Please do not leave this responsibility to your child. If a note is not received, staff will assume that your child's typical routine for that day will be followed.

Dreamcatcher Road Race

Please find information regarding the Dreamcatcher Road Race on Thanksgiving Day here.

School Hours

The school day begins at 9:05 and ends at 3:15. It is very important that your child is here before 9:05 as structured learning time starts immediately after the second bell.

  • First Bell 8:50 A.M.
  • Late Bell 9:05 A.M.
  • End of Day 3:15 P.M.

As a reminder, children should arrive at school no earlier than 8:50 A.M.

Breakfast & Lunch Program

We will once again offer the free universal meal program. Additionally, it remains important for families to complete the free and reduced meals form in order to expand opportunities.

For those interested, breakfast is available each morning from 8:50 - 9:05.

Medication Policy

  • The Weymouth Public Schools Health Services Department encourages that medication is administered before and after school, if possible.

  • When medication is needed during school hours, there must be a physician’s order and a parental permission form with the medication in the prescribed container, or it cannot be given.

  • Medication must be delivered to the school in a pharmacy or manufacturer labeled container by the parent, guardian, or responsible adult. (Medications are not accepted in such things as plastic bags.) Children are not permitted to bring medication to school.

  • Please contact Ms. Boland, our school nurse, for the proper forms, which must accompany all medications.
