Homyak Family Newsletter
Volume 2, Issue 10: October 12th - October 18th
Principal's Message
Dear Homyak Families,
We have another exciting week ahead at Homyak! With a short week for our students, let's make it a 3-for-3 attendance week! As a reminder, there will be no school for students on Thursday, October 15, or Friday, October 16. Every day of learning matters, so let's make these three days count by ensuring our Huskies are present, on time, and ready to learn! Also, Parent-Teacher Conferences are right around the corner! If you haven't already scheduled your conference, please take a moment to do so. These conversations are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child's progress, discuss areas for growth, and strengthen our partnership in supporting their success.
Our Sleeping Husky Fundraiser is officially underway, and it's been exciting to see our school community come together to support our students! Every donation brings us one step closer to our fundraising goals, and we appreciate everyone who has contributed so far. A special shout-out to our current fundraising leaders: Kindergarten is leading the grade-level competition, and Mrs. Hart's class is leading the classroom competition! There's still time for other grades and classrooms to take the lead, so let's keep the momentum going! Be sure to check out the fundraiser information below and help us spread the word.
We're also excited to announce our First Annual Gobble Wobble Ball, sponsored by our PTSA! This promises to be a fun-filled event and another great opportunity to bring our Husky families together for an evening of laughter, connection, and community. Please see the flyer below for more details. We hope to see you there!
As always, thank you for your continued support and for being such an important part of our Homyak family. Let's make these three days count and have another fantastic week!
Warmly,
Dr. Cory Carter
Principal, Homyak PK-8

Fun Run Feedback
Thank you to all of our families who helped make this year’s Homyak Fun Run a great experience for our students! We are always looking for ways to improve our events and make them better, safer, and even more exciting for our Huskies. We invite families to take a few minutes to complete our Fun Run Feedback Survey and share what went well and what we can improve for next year. Your feedback will be shared with our Fun Run Committee, led by Mrs. India, as they review this year’s event and begin thinking about the future. [Click here to complete the Fun Run Feedback Survey] Thank you for helping us continue to improve our school events!

💤The Sleeping Husky Fundraiser Is Here! 💤
Homyak PTSA’s Sleeping Husky Fundraiser is officially underway, and the more money we raise, the more Homyak teachers will be sleeping on the roof! From October 3–29, every donation, no matter the amount, helps support field trips, classroom events, student celebrations, and other great opportunities for our Huskies. There are plenty of reasons to join the fun, including student prizes, a party for the top fundraising grade level, and a special Principal’s Prize for the class that raises the most! We’ll share milestone updates throughout the month as we reveal which teachers have earned a night on the roof. Don’t sleep on this one, Huskies. Let’s see how many teachers we can get on that roof! 🐾🏠💤

Standard Response Protocol
As part of our ongoing commitment to school safety, we encourage families to review the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) with their students. The SRP provides clear, consistent language and actions for students and staff to follow during different situations, including Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. Familiarity with these procedures helps ensure our entire school community knows what to do and can respond calmly and appropriately during an emergency.

School Lunch Menu
Please note: Beginning the week of October 5, students will begin using their individual PIN numbers when receiving meals in the cafeteria. Please know that students’ first meals will continue to be free; the new system simply helps track the meals served each day. Second meals will cost $1.00. As students get used to the new process, lunch lines may move a little slower, and we appreciate everyone’s patience during the transition.
Our cafeteria staff works hard to follow the posted daily menu and will continue to do their best to serve meals as planned.
Homyak families are always welcome to join their student for lunch! We love having families in our building and encourage you to stop by when you are able. Please see the lunch times below to plan your visit.

2026-2027 School Calendar
Homyak PK-8 follows a PK-8 school calendar, which may differ from calendars used by other schools in the district. To avoid confusion, please use this calendar as your primary reference for important school dates, including the first and last day of school, holidays, professional development days, early release days, parent-teacher conferences, and other key events.
We encourage all families to review the calendar carefully and refer to it throughout the school year when planning appointments, vacations, and other activities. Keeping this calendar handy will help ensure you stay informed and up to date on everything happening at Homyak.
Policy Updates
As we begin the new school year, we ask that all families carefully review the District's updated Dress Code Policy, Student Cell Phone & Personal Technology Device Policy, and Student Transportation Policy. These policies have been revised and contain important information regarding student expectations, the appropriate use of personal electronic devices, and transportation procedures.
