Math

Topic 1 will continue through October 14th, and we will take our summative October 15-16. We will send home a study guide for students the Thursday before Fall Break. If your child will not be in attendance that day, a digital copy will be sent via ParentSquare.

Topic 2 will kick of our second 9 weeks! Skills include:

  • Understanding integers
  • Representing Rational Numbers on the Number Line
  • Absolute Values of Rational Numbers
  • Representing Rational Numbers on the Coordinate Plane
  • Finding Distances on the Coordinate Plane
  • Representing Polygons on the Coordinate Plane

There will be a formative for each skill, and one summative at the end of the topic. To help students be successful, please encourage their best effort on their classwork/homework, and work on the extra practices that are posted in Google Classroom to prepare for the formatives.

ELA

In ELA, we’re continuing our Discovering Your Voice unit by putting everything we’ve learned into action. Students are analyzing how authors use personal experiences, language, text structure, images, humor, and perspective to communicate meaningful messages. They are applying these skills by analyzing and comparing texts, discussing different perspectives, supporting their thinking with evidence, and creating pieces that allow them to share their own ideas and experiences. As we continue through the unit, our focus remains on helping students recognize that their voices matter—and giving them the tools and confidence to use them effectively.

Writing

Our young authors are starting a new writing unit: Personal Narratives! Students will learn how to take a real memory from their own lives and turn it into a meaningful story. Electronics Policy Electronics Policy

Cell Phone/Electronic Device Use

House Bill 208 of the 2025 legislative session amended KRS 158.165 to require schools and districts to adopt policies that "at a minimum, prohibit a student's use of a personal telecommunications device during instructional time." While the school policy has not changed, it is now a law that cell phones are prohibited.

  • Beginning at 8:40 (or entry to the building)

  • The use of cell phones and other electronic devices (including headphones/earbuds of any type) is prohibited during the school day. Students may keep their cell phones in their lockers and turn them off throughout the school day.

  • When a student is caught using an electronic device, the teacher will take the device and put it in a tan envelope and send it to the front office. At the end of the day a teacher will be in the office to return all confiscated devices.

  • Headphones/earbuds are NOT ALLOWED in any common area (gym, cafeteria, hallway, library, ect.) during the school day unless authorized by the teacher during THAT class period.

Students in violation of the school procedure for cell phones and other electronic devices will be subject to the following:

1st offense: The device will be confiscated and sent to the office where it can be picked up by the student in the office at the end of the day.

2nd offense: The device will be confiscated and sent to the office where it will need to be picked up by a parent (guardian).

3rd offense: The device will be banned from school for the remainder of the school year.

4th (or more) offense: Administration discretion

*Electronics violations will be reset after winter break.
