May Lifeline: Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence
"I recognize, experience, and appreciate the beauty around me and the skill of others, and it inspires me."
Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence means noticing and enjoying the amazing things all around you—and feeling something special because of them.
It can show up in a few different ways:
- Beauty - You might notice a colorful sunset, a beautiful song, or even a cool pattern in math. It makes you feel happy, calm, or full of wonder.
- Excellence (Skill or Talent) - You might see someone play a sport really well, create awesome art, or solve a tricky problem. It makes you think, “Wow, that’s amazing!” and might even inspire you to try your best too.
- Kindness & Good Choices - You might see someone help a friend, include others, or do the right thing. It makes you feel proud, inspired, and want to be a better person.
Dear Boone Meadow Families -
It is hard to believe that we are heading into our final full week of the school year! Time has truly flown by. As I reflect on the past 170+ school days, I am reminded of just how much learning, growing, and celebrating has taken place within our school community. This week alone provided so many wonderful examples of hands-on learning and joyful experiences for our students.
On Tuesday, our third grade students celebrated a year of learning with Zionsville Nature Center through a field study experience at Overley-Worman Park and Eagle Creek. Students participated in water sampling, explored creek life filled with critters and vegetation, and even completed a service-learning project by removing invasive plant species and planting trees. It was an outstanding example of real-world learning in action!
Our first graders also celebrated in style this week with their very first Cinderella Ball! As part of their literacy learning, students have spent time studying Cinderella stories from around the world and exploring different cultures and traditions. Dressed in their best attire, students learned dance steps and enjoyed a magical celebration together.
While the days remaining in the school year are becoming fewer, we still have plenty of fun, learning, and celebrations packed into the final eight days of school. Please keep the following dates and events in mind:
- Monday – Thanks to the success of our Penny Wars, students will enjoy a Kona Ice treat during the school day. Students have been eagerly anticipating this fun reward!
- Wednesday – We will head to Holliday Park for our All-School Field Trip! Final details will be shared early next week, including grade-level departure times and chaperone check-in information.
- Thursday – One of our favorite traditions returns with the Kindy 500! ZCHS seniors will once again join our kindergarten students for their “laps” around the building. The event will begin around 9:30–9:35 AM, and guests are welcome to gather in front of the school to cheer students on. The drop-off lane will be blocked to allow for viewing space. Additionally, our preschool students will host their musical performance at 3:00 PM in the café. We also look forward to celebrating our graduating seniors during the annual Senior Walk.
- Friday – Our fourth grade students will travel downtown for their Indiana Statehouse tour and history walk — another exciting learning experience to wrap up the year!
Lastly, please remember that following Memorial Day (May 25), only three days of school will remain. Additional details regarding the fourth grade celebration will be shared directly with fourth grade families soon.
We are looking forward to making the most of these final two weeks together and creating lasting memories with your children. Thank you for your continued partnership and support throughout the school year. We also look forward to hearing about all of the exciting summer adventures ahead!
Enjoy your weekend,
Team Meadow, Tom & Jarrod

Registration for NEXT SCHOOL YEAR - Complete by May 28th
Please follow the instructions you received in the personalized email from Zionsville Community Schools earlier this week. Registration information is vital for ensuring that you receive information about the 2026-2027 school year, for maintaining records to ensure student safety, and in compliance reporting required of us on behalf of all enrolled students (for various state and local agencies). Please remember that this notification may have been sent to multiple parent/guardian contacts. Only ONE registration record may be submitted for each student. A parent/guardian who starts a registration for a student becomes the only registrant possible for that student.
Please complete this registration by Thursday, May 28th, 2026.
If your student will not be returning to Zionsville Community Schools next year, please complete the online student change form found here so that you won’t continue to receive registration notices.
Student Account Balances
As we approach the end of the school year, please ensure that all consumable material fees and any outstanding food service balances are paid as soon as possible. Accounts that are not paid in full by May 28, 2026, may be sent to collections.
To review any outstanding charges, please log in to your PowerSchool account https://ps.zcs.k12.in.us/public/.
If you have questions or need a copy of your fee statement, contact your school treasurer or the Business Office at zcsfinoff@zcs.k12.in.us.

Spring Identification for Advanced Curriculum
The Indiana Department of Education requires school districts to identify gifted students and provide them with appropriately differentiated curriculum and instruction. In ZCS, we consider ability and achievement data of all students each spring to identify any who may need advanced curriculum and/or instruction. This spring our team of teachers, licensed in gifted education, will look at all data to make sure that we understand the needs of each student.
Our school district is committed to continuous progress for all students, regardless of designation. Accelerated content is common in our classrooms as are heightened expectations, instructional levels and high-achieving peers. Whether or not a child is identified as needing advanced curriculum, our teachers are committed to regular assessment of skills and knowledge and matching experiences to challenge each child and help him or her make maximum academic growth.
For students currently in grades K-3: Programming at the elementary level is based on student need for acceleration and enrichment within a cluster group in a general education classroom and not on labels. All student data is reviewed each year to look for several indicators that a child needs advanced instruction in order to grow academically. Our identification team looks at achievement (NWEA), ability (CogAT) and teacher observational data (KOI/SIGS). Since these vary from year to year with young students, we re-look at every student each spring. Students who receive AC services this year will continue to receive those next year. Parents of newly identified students will be notified by June 5th if their child has been recommended for more advanced curriculum. If your child was not identified through our extensive process, parents/guardians may appeal the decision. Parents/guardians can complete the appeal process by June 15th. Forms are located on the Academics tab of our website under “Advanced Curriculum” Click HERE
For students currently in grade 4: All students are considered and more formally identified for high ability each year throughout middle school where they are placed in a class with high ability curriculum. Our identification team considers either achievement (NWEA) or ability (CogAT) when making decisions. Students who receive AC services in elementary will not receive notice and students will automatically be placed into high ability classes in middle school in their identified area. Parents of newly identified students will be notified by June 5th if their child has been recommended for differentiation based on the need for accelerated instruction and curriculum. If your child was not identified through our extensive process, parents may appeal the decision. Parents can complete the appeal process by June 15. Forms are located on the Academics tab of our website under “Advanced Curriculum”: Click HERE
Note: If your child is currently identified and receiving more advanced curriculum in grades 1-4, you will not receive an email because this placement will continue for the next school year.

Lunch Guests & Reservations
Lunch Guests
We are ready to welcome lunch guests! Students and their guests will have lunch at designated locations in the front lobby area. Please no more than 2 guests per student due to limited space. So that others may have the opportunity, we ask that you not sign up more than 1 time per month. As we implement this new system/procedure, we will limit availability the first two weeks to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday visits.
Here's how it works:
- Sign up for a reservation in advance using this link: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/BMELunchSchedule@zcsk12in.onmicrosoft.com/bookings/ When you sign up, please be certain to complete all fields requested.
- Bring a photo ID and arrive 5 minutes early (lunch times are listed on the signup form link above).
- Your child will meet you in the front office area when they are ready.
- HAVE FUN!
Visitors and Volunteers
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to check in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer's first volunteer experience, the individual must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check.. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days before the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state-mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee for the full background check which will expire after 5 years.
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government-issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
