Planting Words for the Future: Dual Credit Students Earn Poetry Honors
Mrs. Heather Dykes' dual credit English class partnered with the Sunnyvale Garden Club to participate in a poetry contest sponsored by National Garden Clubs, Texas Garden Clubs and District X. District X, also known as the Blacklands District, includes eight counties around the DFW area.
Students crafted original poems inspired by the theme “Plant America for the Next 100 Years.”
Preliminary winners were selected by the Sunnyvale Garden Club and will advance to compete for state and national recognition later this spring.
On Tuesday, January 13, student winners were invited to read their poems aloud at the Sunnyvale Garden Club’s monthly meeting.
Thank you to the Sunnyvale Garden Club for supporting our students’ creativity and for being such a valued partner in our community.

Thank you, SISD Board Members
January is School Board Appreciation Month, and we're taking this opportunity to recognize and thank the dedicated individuals who serve on the Sunnyvale ISD Board of Trustees. These volunteer leaders work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our district continues to provide exceptional educational opportunities for every student.
This year’s state theme, “Go Public,” highlights the powerful impact of Texas public schools and the communities that support them. Our Sunnyvale ISD Board of Trustees embodies this spirit daily as they champion strong public education, advocate for our students and staff, and ensure that Sunnyvale ISD remains a source of pride for our community. Their leadership helps our district “Go Public” with excellence in academics, arts, and athletics.
Our board members balance their professional and personal lives with the significant responsibility of governing our school district. They attend regular meetings, study complex policies, make difficult budget decisions, and always keep the best interests of our students, staff, and community at the forefront of their work. We are grateful for their leadership, service and dedication to Sunnyvale ISD.

Parent Training: Supporting Executive Functioning at Home

Join us for a parent training led by Lindsey Nikaidoh. Designed for parents of students of all ages, this session will provide realistic, low-stress strategies to support executive functioning at home — strategies that fit naturally into busy family routines.

Parent Training: Technology & Mental Health
For parents with children of all ages, come learn more about the impact of technology on your child's mental health with Russell Baxter, LPC-S on February 2, 2026 at 6 p.m. in the SISD Board Room. This talk helps parents understand how constant screen time, social media, and digital distractions are shaping kids’ attention, moods, and daily habits. We’ll look at how phones and apps slowly shift what children see as “normal,” making it harder for them to focus, enjoy quiet moments, or feel satisfied without constant stimulation.
Using real examples and clear explanations, the presentation breaks down why today’s digital world can leave kids more stressed, more distracted, and less confident—and what parents can do about it. Families will leave with practical tools to set healthier tech boundaries, lower the “noise” in their home, and teach their children how to use technology in a balanced, intentional way.
If you have any questions, please contact Melissa James at melissa.james@sunnyvaleisd.com.
