PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Whitaker Rainbow Parents🌈,
As we move into the Fall season🍂, we have several activities planned with our families.
· Every Friday parents are invited to eat lunch with their child. We would like to encourage our families to eat from our Eat Smart Cafe🍽.
· October 16 will be our McTeacher Night at McDonalds from 4-7 at the Dyer location. Please come out and have dinner.🍔
· October 18 is Coffee with the Principal. We will share the Whitaker
Academic Report and answer any questions you may have.
October 23- October 31 is our Red Ribbon Week🔴. A calendar of events went out a few days ago
October 24 is our 5th Grade Family Night Presentation
· October 25 we will have our Trunk or Treat and Haunted House from 4:30 -6:30👻🎃
· We are making plans to host a Thanksgiving Luncheon🦃 on November
14th for all grade levels. Tickets sales and more information will be sent out to our various social media platforms on Monday, October 21st. To facilitate the increasingly large number of people that attend this event, we are going to revise our lunch schedule for the luncheon. Out goal is to give each grade level 30 minutes in the cafeteria with their class. We will be unable to call siblings to eat with the family, although parents are welcome to stay for several lunch periods. This information and a more detailed plan will be sent on Monday the 21st.
I hope that October has been an enjoyable month, and the following months will be even better. I appreciate your support and if you have any concerns or comments, I can be reached at amcarpen@episd.org, or you may call the school🏫.
I look forward to the next few months as we begin to celebrate and make memories with our children and families.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month!!!
WHAT IS DYSLEXIA?
Students who continue to struggle to read, despite appropriate or intensified instruction, are provided organized systems of reading support in the state of Texas. Some students struggle during early reading acquisition. Others do not struggle until the later grades, when they face more complex language demands. For many struggling readers, including students in all grades and Emergent Bilinguals the difficulty with reading may be a result of dyslexia.

Message from Kindergarten teachers!!📬
Happy October! September is gone and the children did a wonderful job learning the class routines and procedures. We had our first Parent-Teacher conferences and it was a success. Thank You parents for attending and making your child’s education a priority. The mornings will begin to feel a bit chilly. Please bring a labeled sweater or jacket to your child to use on those brisk fall mornings. Our Halloween parade around the school is coming soon. Bring your children in costumes and see them marching through the school. We look forward to having a great school year with you all.

PK3 students have learned so much in this short time at school. The academic concepts have centered on the following:
*identifying the letter of first name
*letter sounds
*classifying objects by color or size
Additionally, students are using calming strategies as they work to regulate their emotions and expand their social skills.
We value your patience and support as we continuously strive to build a positive snd healthy bond with your child.
