Dear Albert Schweitzer community,

I hope everyone is having a great start to their summer! This newsletter is to check in with families and remind everyone of our many summer learning opportunities available to students. Summer reading is incredibly important to keep the love of reading alive, so please be sure to encourage your child to participate in this year's 'Mission to R.E.A.D.' at each of our elementary schools. Students are asked to track their suggested 15 minutes a day of reading. They will get rewards and have a celebration when they return to school in August if they participate!

It is critical so that we can hit the ground running in September with our academics!

Grade-Level Supply Lists are also provided below. Be sure to take advantage of sales throughout the summer. 'Save the Date' for our Back-to-School Kindergarten Orientation and Open House on Tuesday, August 26th. Times provided below.

Please take time to relax and rejuvenate this summer as a family. I look forward to hearing about your summer adventures when you return in August! We are gearing up for a fantastic 2025-2026 school year!

Enjoy and continue to have a safe and relaxing summer!

Dr. Amy Orlando
Principal

Summer reading is important! The goal is for all rising 1st through 4th grade students to read for a MINIMUM of 15 minutes daily. Elementary Reading Specialists have curated grade-level book lists and have created a summer reading initiative entitled “Mission to R.E.A.D." All book lists and resources can be found on the 2025 Elementary Summer Reading Canvas Course. Your child should have accepted this course invitation during one of their final library classes of hte year.

Parents/guardians, please initial a star on the tracker for every 15 minutes of reading your child does over the summer. Students will hand in their completed minute tracker to next year’s teacher to receive a free book and summer reading celebration in September.

A copy of the summer reading tracker was sent home and is attached below as well as a FAQ page that should be able to answer any remaining questions you may have. If your child is headed to middle school, you can find their book list on the district website or by clicking this link.

Please help your child join us in our Mission to R.E.A.D.!!

GIVE BACKS:

If you're interested in participating in ongoing fundraisers to help our school, below are two easy ways to earn cash for our school through "Give Back" programs.

1. Box Tops For Education
:-Cash can be earned for our school through this program in a variety of ways, the box top for education app allows users to earn cash for their school by purchasing products that participate in this program and scanning your receipts in the app or emailing your digital receipt. You can also earn by connecting your account to participating retailers, such as Walmart and making purchases at those retailers, in addition, cash can be earned through periodic bonus box opportunities found on the app. Our school will receive a check twice yearly in December and April.

Steps to start earning:

  1. Download the Box Tops App to your mobile device.

  2. Register for an account: In order to start earning for your school and access the features of the app you must register for an account. Membership is free!

  3. SHOP! Purchase box top for education products

  4. SCAN your physical receipt. Scan your full receipt in the app within 14 days of the date of purchase.

  5. Connect accounts. Connect participating retailer accounts to your account in the app (ex: Walmart)

  6. E-receipts and receipts for online purchases (grocery pick-ups or delivery), visit the app for more details, including participating retailers and other restrictions.

Our school can earn up to $20,000 cash per year through this program beginning March 2 and runs through March 1 of the following year. We all shop and this is a great way to earn for our school and give back to our kids.

2. REDNER'S RECEIPTS-Our school can earn 1% back on the save-a-tape totals on your receipts.

Steps

  1. Save your Redner's receipts

  2. Send in your receipts in an envelope with your child’s room number and teachers name marked PTO

  3. Help your child earn incentive prizes!

This save-a-tape program is a wonderful opportunity to give back to our school and provide fun opportunities for our kids.
