What a busy week at DKHS. We hosted athletic events every night, as well as our Freshman Orientation for our current 8th graders on Tuesday. It was a nice turnout considering the MS wrestling team had a match, which impacted attendance. I’m hearing good things about this group of young people. We are excited to welcome them next year as the Class of 2030.

Thursday, we hosted the SAC Competitive Cheer Championships with 17 teams competing. Our girls were outstanding and secured a 2nd place finish in the league.

Tonight, I encourage you to come out to our Hall Of Fame Night as our basketball teams host Saugatuck, with the girls tipping off at 6 PM and the guys to follow. Between games, we will be honoring this year’s inductees, Ryan Watson and Jason Thomas. Join these two and their families and friends for a reception of light snacks and good storytelling in the HS Library, starting at 530.

A Big Shout Out to 2 of our wrestlers. Griffyn Harmon and Mendan Phillips, who both secured their 100th career victory. These guys, along with their teammates, have a chance to make a deep tournament run with district play in our winter sports getting underway soon.

Earlier this week, we had 2 Muskegon area schools and a tech center visit our new IGNITE Lab as they are looking to duplicate what we have here for our kids. It’s nice to have programs and opportunities for our kids that other schools are trying to emulate. This makes 5 schools from around the state that have visited to see what we have here at DK.

We had our final meeting with the design team for our new agricultural science barn, which will break ground this spring. These are good times in Delton, and I’m excited for the future of Delton Kellogg Schools. With new course offerings, we will be moving our students to one of 3 career tracks to best prepare them for what lies ahead. These will be a trades path, college prep, and honors pathways with lots of flexibility and a built-in focus on some of our CTE programs. The scheduling process has begun with Mr Vanhoose, our guidance counselor, working with 8th graders next week to submit their course selections. Watch for more information and next steps for grades 9-11 in the coming days.

This week’s Hogie’s Heroes are Tucker Tack, Brynlee Babbitt-Smith, and Sophie Lebeck, who continue to look for ways to help and always jump in and serve without being asked. Thanks for Doing A Job!!

FUN IN PHYS ED FUN IN PHYS ED

Sledding in PE class is a fun and different way to get students moving while enjoying the winter season. It gives students a chance to be active outdoors, try something new, and work on skills like balance, coordination, and teamwork without it feeling like a traditional workout.
