Hello, Deer Hill Families!

Welcome to our last newsletter of the school year! While it has some Need to Knows, it's bursting with photos of the many ways we've wrapped up a fabulous year. Thank you for being a part of the Deer Hill community. I wish you a relaxing summer. . . Hugo and I hope to see you around town and look forward to greeting returning students in September!

Deer Hill Family Handbook

Spring Assessments: Spring DIBELS & iReady assessments are now available in Aspen. These assessments are one aspect of students' overall academic profile. Progress reports will be published in Aspen tomorrow.

Summer Skills Practice: All students have access to iReady MyPath over the summer. Additionally, our reading and math specialists have some ideas for keep skills fresh over the summer. Please check out these resources and consider making time each week for a bit of practice!

Cradles to Crayons Donation Site: Due to the efforts of CHS graduating senior Elizabeth Martin, Deer Hill is now the only Cohasset location for a Cradles to Crayons donation bin. This is a GREAT place to drop of donations of clothing and books (no toys please). There is even a QR code where you can obtain a tax receipt. Check out the Cradles to Crayons website for more details about this organization. Please note that all Deer Hill lost and found items will be donated to the bin after the last day of school.

Order Your Deer Hill T-Shirt: Please place your order on MySchoolBucks, and we'll send a t-shirt home with your child.

Deer Hill Happenings

Grade 5 Send-Off : On Tuesday we celebrated our 5th graders with a send-off ceremony, a staff vs. grade 5 kickball game, yearbook signing, a swag bag, and an icy lunch treat. Many thanks to the PSO for your generosity of time and resources in planning this event!

Bike to School with Mr. You: As the culminating activity of Mr. Youmans' bike riding and safety unit, over 112 students plus staff met at the Common and were escorted by Cohasset Police to Deer Hill. Many thanks to Mr. Youmans, Superintendent Sullivan, and the Cohasset Police Department for their efforts to make this new tradition a success!

Grade 5 Egg Drop: Deer Hill 5th graders upheld a tradition steeped in eggs-traordinary perseverance and creativity with the annual egg drop. Round one launched egg contraptions from the roof. Both successes and re-designs were then dropped from the Cohasset Fire Department ladder truck. Many thanks to our guest judges and CFD for your gift of time!

Field Day: Students in all grades participated in games of crazy kickball, capture the flag, treasure island during our annual Field Day. They also enjoyed lunch outdoors on a perfect late spring day. Thank you to Mr. Youmans and the many volunteers who ran the stations!

Hugo's 1st Classroom Visits: Hugo, Deer Hill's new comfort puppy in training, made the rounds of all classrooms last week to say hello and has been spotted in the hallways a few times since. He's been having a blast and is always tuckered out after a busy day. He even got his first fan mail! You can follow Hugo's adventures on Instagram @hugo.dogberry

Empowered Student Awards: Congratulations to our trimester 3 Empowered Student award winners. Their kindness and exemplification of the Skipper Creed was noted by a variety of Deer Hill staff and celebrated with congratulatory letters home and certificates. Thank you for being such positive models for others!
